CAMINO DE SANTIAGO
Another relevant fact on the history of this muncipality is that it forms part of la Ruta del Sureste del Camino de Santiago. The assocation of Friends of El Camino Santiago de Alicante y Ávila is working to recover the Camino del Sureste. These assocations ensure that the true path of Santiago starts from any point of the Spanish geography, with needing to come close to Santiago from Roncesvalles, the popular French path. The historic document is an ancient guide published in 1546 by the royal "cartero" Pedro Juan Villuga with the title "Repertorio de todos los caminos de España hasta agoré nunca visto en el cual hallaran cualquier viaje que quieran andar muy provechoso para todos los caminantes". The path covers 1,5050km and is from Alicante or Musica crossing the provinces of Albacete, Toledo, Madrid, Ávila, Valladolid y Zamora, ending up in Benavente with the the route of silver and in Astorga (León) continuing on with the French path. In the province of Ávila it covers 116km and comes from El Tiemblo, El Barraco, Ávila, Narrillos de San Leonardo, Cardeñosa, Peñalba de Ávila, Gotarrendura, Hernansacho, Villanueva de Gomez, El Bohodon, Tiñosillos, Arévalo and Palacios de Goda. The township has shown the route by putting signs up showing the symbol of the path with a distance showing how far it is between Alicante and Santiago de Compostela (www.amigosdelcaminoenavila.org)
RUTA DEL CORTEJA FÚNEBRE DE ISABEL LA CATÓLICA
This township was passed by Cortejo Fúnebre de Isabel la Católica. This queen who, before dying in Medina del Campo, on the 26th November 1504, left written in her testament her desire to be buried in Granada. Because of this, "El Cortejo Fúnebre" was moved from Medina to Granada. El cortejo fúnebre was composed by 200 people who travelled 19 days the distance from Medina del Campo to Granadas crossing in its journey the province of Ávila, passing places such as Arévalo, Gotarrendura, Cardeñosa, Ávila and Cebreros. With the reason of "V Centenario de la muerte de Isabel la Católica" in 2004, La Ruta Quetzal passed around here, retracing the steps of the Cortejo route.
RUTA DE LA MÍSTICA
In 2006, the Ayuntamiento of Gotarrendura decided to organise a route in commemoration of Santa Teresa de Jesús el 28 de marzo de 1515. So in 2006, they organized a route "Por los caminos de la mística", covering the distance which unites the localities of Gotarrendura, cuna de Santa Teresa y Fontiveros, cuna de San Juan de la Cruz. This destination was chosen, Fontiveros due to the friendship that unites Santa Teresa de Jesús with San Juan de la Cruz. So the Ayuntamiento of Gotarrendura and the Ayuntamiento of Fontiveros organized the route between these two places. In 2007 the route from Fontiveros to Gotarrendura was realised. The distance of the route is 22km and it crosses through rural townships, including Gotarrendura, El Oso, Papatrigo, Narros de Saldueña and Fontiveros.
